1st half!
The day started in absolute positive spirits with overcast skies and D-mos running high on energy in cool weather. Proceedings started when Dynamos’ skip Sunder won the toss and without any hesitation decided to field first. Sohail started the attack for D-mos from the Jungle end at Richmond ground with lots of energy and boy did it pay off. He claimed 2 wickets in the very 1st over that included both openers where Pramod took a running catch in covers and an LBW. Pramod was tack sharp from the other end bowling a good line and length without giving any room to breathe. In first 10 overs, the batting side was trying to hold the fort down against Sunnyvale’s pace and the scoreboard read 32/2.
Sunder brought in Santosh Express (Tandoori) in place of Sohail and just as the team expected, he delivered with a wicket while Shashank made life miserable for CCD with his leg spin from the other end. Dynamos knew they had CCD on the back foot when runs were not being scored from the bat, but with extras instead. Ahsan started proceedings after the first break from school end and chipped in with a 3 wkt haul.
Sunder kept the pressure on from both sides and didn’t allow any room for CCD to breathe. Shortly and surely enough CCD succumbed to top notch bowling and fielding effort by Dynamos with a score off 112, all out. Amar, Santosh, Venky, Baba, Shashank (with his Jonty like catch) and Pramod all chipped in with sharp catching at their fielding positions, something that was a 180 degree turn from their previous week’s performance. Credit to the hard practice and work put in during the work week.
2nd half!
Oozing with confidence with victory in sight for Dynamos, Raj B and Venky started the innings and started scoring at will. D-mos were scoring at a brisk 4.5 RPO until Raj fell victim as he nudged an outgoing delivery. As Raj fell, it felt like a flood gate of an epic proportion opened and took out the entire Dynamos batting line up as they couldn’t score against not so much of a bowling attack. Wickets fell like they were dominoes without a sight of resistance until Baba and Shashank steadied the ship a little and tried to maneuver it towards the victory. However, that hope fell short as they too succumbed to poor shot selection. Rest was history as Dynamos slumped to another bad defeat leaving a horrible taste in the team’s mouth.
Summary: You can’t take anything lightly in a game until its OVER! Dynamos’ over confidence brought them to their knees; when this game should have been won in a comprehensive fashion.
Positives: Top notch bowling, fielding, energy and aggression
Negatives: Over confidence and lack of ownership. Nonetheless, an eye opening experience.
