Details:

Sunnyvale Asteroids with four new players in this season opened the batting with their familiar foes Santaclara Bees. The idea at the start of the innings was to stay at the crease for 50 overs. The team started with very clear intentions in mind. Venky started the flood with Raj getting out immediately the next ball. The in-form Narsi got out to a peach from Ketan for a duck followed by Arun D. Srikanth was joined by Gadde and tried to restore some sanity to the proceedings, but nothing was working for Asteroids in the middle. Gadde got out to a catch to Ketan with the score on 42/5. Tejas, Ekagra and Nitin got out next without contributing much to the scoreboard. Srikanth was the lone warrior playing with ease and displaying all his strokes. Kiran and Ajay tried their best to support Sri, but eventually bundled out for 123 in 38.3 overs. Sri made 68 from 95 balls and was the highest scorer of the match.

With only 124 needed for victory, Santa Clara started their innings with a flurry of strokes forcing quick introduction of spin. Ajay Desai the new comer bowled very well but the openers made a quick fire 50 in 8 overs without any loss. Santa clara lost their first wicket of Snehal for 37 stumped by Venky of the bowling of Ajay. The first wicket bought another wicket in the 11thover with the score on 58/2 giving Sunnyvale a glimmer of hope. The following batsman made sure not to lose any more quick wickets and carefully tackled the spin of Ajay/Narsi/Teju. Santaclara lost two more wickets before surpassing the target.

Positives:

  • Srikanth’s form

Areas of Improvement:

  • Implement and put in practice the ideas discussed in the team meetings
